Molly’s Diary – Week 9

January 14, 2017

How did this happen? Molly is already 6 months old! It’s been a bit of a whirlwind with the holidays, vet check ups, and trying to keep Molly entertained while limiting her physical exercise as her leg has been healing.

Although Molly’s surgeon was satisfied that her bones had healed well and her leg was strong, she was still limping a little and so we decided to schedule another surgery to remove the plate as that may have been contributing to the pain. With that, Molly spent Christmas resting with her leg bandaged up again.

Considering Molly’s surgeries and this cold weather, her activity has been limited to low impact and indoors. I have to say, her “leave it” and “come” behaviors are pretty strong. On the other hand, we do have some work to do on her walking nicely on leash as well as greeting people politely.

Molly feels she has some catching up to do as well – she is so excited to be able to go on walks that she completely forgets her manners ;).

What’s next? We’re looking forward to getting outdoors more with Molly and Mitch, meeting more people, and enjoying some hiking.

Some things Molly is discovering:

  • Digging up the back yard makes her leg feel better (or at least takes her mind off it).
    • To prevent digging, we are being proactive and interrupting/distracting her before she starts. Otherwise, as gross as it sounds, putting dog poop in the hole stops her from digging in the same place again
  • Although she is the youngest and has been recovering from a broken leg, she can still run faster than her brother Mitch and cousin Levi
  • A roll of toilet paper goes a long way (it’s just as well she’s so cute)

If you want to check on Molly and find out how she is doing, please don’t hesitate to ask.
